Well then.

I’ve lost count on how many times Kurogane died in this episode…safe to say, it’s at least eight times.

Taito and Himea decide to return to the student council room where Gekkou and Mirai were. Unfortunately they are not there because of the portal that they went through. In any case, Himea went missing all of a sudden and this totally prevented them from reaching said room. Zombie protagonist found Himea tangled up in one of the classrooms, tried to free her but he can’t, because he got killed by those bright red (jelly) tentacles restraining the vampire.

Alas, her body was taken over by Himea’s alter-ego, Bahlskra. It was later revealed that Himea created him to make her feel better; deemed a failure because she found the one person that will. That in turn made Bahlskra jealous of Taito and wanted to kill him so bad, so his beloved alter-ego would return by his side. Things wouldn’t always go with the baddies, remember.

In the end, Himea got her body back, but there seemed to be another problem. She became…bolder, I guess. The after-ending sequences (the ED is reverted to Akiko Shikata’s, by the way) back it up, as a higher being talks to a mysterious girl that’s said to be observing the events that unfold before her.

And this is that girl, Haruka Shigure. There’s no mistake that this (or the) next few episodes should define the role that would eventually tie her up with the protagonists.

That means no part of the story is rushed or cut-off.

‘Crown of the Dog Days’ author Lenny Lents requested help from the Diswards about a certain book. Hesitating not once, Dalian orders they depart immediately. Meeting up with them was a blonde young lady introducing herself as Lenny’s wife. Of course before that, Huey knew something was up when he saw a blood-stained machete dipped in a bucket; Dalian doubts her as well as she read a dedication in the author’s book. Knowing Lenny is supposedly writing at the time they came to his place and shouldn’t be disturbed, the two opted to come back the next day and hopefully, meet the author in person.

And did I mention Lenny was supposedly attacked on the streets and died?

That night, the two returned to the villa and peeked into a barn and saw Lenny’s lifeless body–and more. His lover was also imprisoned there. As any person would do, Huey wanted the girl to escape, but she shunned him and said to come back the next day and take Lenny with them.

So they did, with some tea with dear old ‘Lady Machete’, as Dalian would refer. The mystery keeps coming when they have finally met the author himself. That’s not right, because they just saw him cold as ice last night in the barn.

Lenny’s also asking for help via the typewriter, typing every word that should have come out of his mouth if it weren’t for Paula observing them by the door. He, by the way, wants the two to help her lover, imprisoned in the barn. He’d be glad to cough up the final book of the trilogy if possible. They just disguised their actual conversation, asked for the author’s autograph and left.

That night was unfortunate though, because Huey and Dalian just got found out (actually, she looks like they suspected the two from the start) and imprisoned with Lenny and Leticia in the barn and witnessed horrific events that would later turn the tides and end their suffering. Paula killed and revived the two repeatedly with the book that she’s holding (The Book of Soul Exchange). Paula was able to do all of this because of her ‘love’ for Lenny’s works, and she’d go further for that sole purpose.

In the end, the lovers were able to escape Paula’s (she’s also dead) imprisonment and Dalian obtains the fruit of their work — the finale of Crown of the Dog Days.

Unlike the previous 2 episodes, this one actually is split into two parts–the first half is Episode 2 (Liber Sapientiae); the latter half is Episode 3 (Queen of the Night).

Oh, here’s a montage of Dalian and her sweet moments throughout the entire episode. Along with her ahoge, of course. Because admit it, why not?

Oh and I should never forget her “Yes”. The way Miyuki Sawashiro (Dalian’s CV) says it tickles my ears, haha.

Anyway, Episode 2 revolves around Camilla (Huey’s friend) and Mildred who allegedly found a ‘Phantom Book’ that took control of the children she has been teaching. Dalian acknowledges it as the Book of Knowledge, saying they need not worry. As they visit the place where the children are staying, it becomes clear the children really have been changed by the Phantom Book Mildred acquired.

The children seem like they want to change the world with their own two hands; then again the intellectual mind considers everything and anything, even this:

Doubts would be dispelled when the children themselves wouldn’t want to do anything with their newly-acquired intellect. They simply want to live the rest of their lives like they were before. It’s a simple thing, is it not? They’ve no use for the book by the way, so they want Huey and Dalian to take it with them. Finding no use for it (and because Dalian confirms there’s another copy of it in the Bibliotheca), they decided to burn the book. -Episode 2 ends here

Episode 3 (Queen of the Night) is set on the Disward Manor some time after the events in the first half. Dalian in the greenhouse takes care of a rare cactus that apparently takes a long time (thirteen years, to be exact) for it to bloom–and it blooms some time that night.

Unfortunately for the duo, thieves broke into the dilapidated manor in search of  a book called the ‘Queen of the Night’, which was apparently tipped to them as being in that certain manor. Huey and Dalian were tied up in the library while the thieves search for the alleged item. One of them searches around the perimeter…

…and ends up screaming for his life. The other burglar who apparently bashed his pistol on Huey’s head went to the backyard only to find the alleged book.

Though the book in question isn’t the only thing that’s in the package.

Heck, the entire plant Dalian’s been taking care of is the actual thing. The plant that takes more than a decade to blossom is a carnivorous one, and it also transfers the memories of its prey into the flower’s petals (Huey says it must be the reason why his grandfather acquired the plant).

Such is the wonder of the world. I just can’t wait for the next episode.
